Paid Maternity Leave

Published by SJ under General

Why is this even on the discussion board??

Did Australia suddenly win Gold Lotto or something? Where did this country come up with the cash to support such a pipe dream?

Next thing you know they will be demanding that tertiary education should be taxpayer funded. Oh hang on that’s right they tried that.

There are some things that I believe should be covered by the taxpayer.

  • Medical care for all
  • Basic surgical care for all without a long wait
  • Basic dental care for all without long year wait
  • Basic accommodation for those who have hit hard times.
  • A good quality of education through to the end of high school for all

Surely paid maternity leave is a luxury, not a basic need. Why is it required?

So a bunch of show pony husband and wife types can continue to pay for their overly inflated home loans that they trapped themselves in? Surely the cost and burden of adding children to their budget is not something we all should be forced to absorb.

My understanding of the pro argument is that Australia need more young people because our population is aging, correct me if I am wrong. To this end the taxpayer will pay mothers (or fathers in this crazy world) to spit out kids and stay home for an extended period of time.

So, instead of investing more funds into making sure the public school that these prospective children will attend is of high quality the government is considering paying parents money to stay home on there selfish fat arses to watch Ophra or Dr Phil, sip coffee whilst lamenting rising interest rates.

I personally wish we could travel back in time and disallow the second income solution illusion (or for the so called educated, Women’s liberation) to ever occur. Houses would be cheaper, childcare centres would be in less demand and parents would have the ability to raise their children with one parent looking after the children and home.

Luxury or Necessity, what are your thoughts?

More NRL Adjustments

Published by SJ under General

Watching the Bronco’s lose like a bunch of losers Friday night I thought that the games score should have been much closer than it ended up. I thought the Broncos played pretty well, but they were beaten by the better side on the night.

I also thought the same about the Dogs v Roosters game. The Dogs were all over the Cocks earlier on in the game and it wasn’t until big Willy extended over the line (cheers to Rabbits for this gold) that the Roosters even looked like they were in the game. After that they took it by the scruff of the neck.

Sometimes I find that League games can turn into a try-a-thon when one of the teams loses belief in their ability to win the game. This can lead to a disappointing end to the game for the supporters and the hapless punter who has slapped a bet on a predicted points spread that is looking unlikely do to a lack of heart from certain players.

I propose a new ladder points award system be adopted as follows.

The winning team gets 4 points

The losing team gets 1 point if the finish within 15 (scoreboard) points of the winner

The losing team gets 0 if they finish outside the 15 points

A draw will see both teams awarded with 2 points

I feel the above will add even more spice to the Rubgy League watcher as well as Rugby League punter.

The teams will have something still to play for if the game is gone from their grasp. This should result in more games being played all the way to the full time whistle. A single point can mean a whole lot at the back end of the season and qualification for the Top-8.

What do you think?

Is 15 points the right spot or should it be lower? 9 points perhaps?

Talk to me…

I love Fatty Vautin and the Footy Show. There is not much more I can say after that. You either love him or think he is a McDickhead.

I must confess to much enjoyment and laughter at watching this show over the years. I don’t own any of their DVD’s so can I only relive some of the funnier moments on you tube.

The Chief is not quiet as funny as the rest of them but this little nugget met with my approval. Its catchy. Look out for the drummer she is smoking!

The close up in the spa is also funny.

This Weeks Winners

Published by SJ under General

Catechuchu, Please only submit winners, I have been getting a lot of complaints about your “tips”.

Hopefully we can get to 16 legs this weekend. Gallops bets should be the place unless they are paying under $2.50 the win.

1. The Broncos should beat the Storm
2. SR1 Reaan should win the Jacob Creek Quality
3. SR2 Racing to Win will win the Patinack Farms Canterbury Stakes
4. SR6 I think Desert War should win but back it for a place. The War is BACK!!!
5. BR3 Scattergun Hit the line nicely last start and should run a place
6. MR5 Morgan Dollar to win
7. PR2 Danana Smoothie to fall over the line just. It will lead at least.
8. PR5 Marasco gets a chance to make up for last start. It will be sacked if it fails here.
9. PR6 Ameilias Reason has a bad barrier but should fly home. Ridden back this time hopefully.
10. MR7 Eckland should win tonight.
11. Hawthorn will beat North Melbourne
12. Geelong will beat Melbourne
13. Eels should beat the hopeless Cowboys
14. Manly will beat the Rabbits
15. A Ferrari to win the Bahrain GP
16. SJ to have a heart attack if he gets 8 of the above correct.
