The Google Search go ahead

Published by SJ under General

Yet another reason to make notasmartman.com your home page. Not only do you get a dose of insightful and important information each day, now you have the opportunity to do Google searches from this page as well. A staggering 68.37 percent of internet users have set Google as their home page, not its time to change up. Yes I think it is!

Use the search function in the top left hand side of the page and set notasmartman.com as your home page and I will personally send to you a check for $50 *cheques will not be honoured.

In other news my mate John Daly has made the news by smashing some limp wristed niffs camera. Apparently the limp wristed niff shoved the camera quite close to the wild things face and flashed a shot. Well, I am not sure about you but a close up unexpected flash from a camera can be pretty annoying. I think the limp wristed niff got off lightly with a smashed camera. Had it been me he would have had the enjoyment of receiving the full length of my driver up his clacker head first. I would have then proceeded to complete the round with the niff hanging off the club. Messy darts if you have a brand new $1200 Taylor Made R7 but happy days for my Maxfli bargain bin special with sky marks all over the bastard.

I like ‘Black Minx’ for the Gold Edition Plate in Brisbane

‘Actions’ in Race 3 in Toowoomba and

‘Royal Ida’ in Adelaide…. I think these 3 may get a place all up crack.

Get on or go home and sook….

More debt driven gold

Published by SJ under General

Rio Tinto is set to slash 14000 jobs yet their dividend payout is going to remain solid. From

the outside this may look like it’s just a company looking after their shareholders before their employees but when you think about it…. Another smoke and mirrors event has occurred.

14000 jobs? think about that. In the mining industry people have been paid pretty well for the last few years so lets equate this to a 112 million dollar saving in wages for (more than likely) productive people for the next 12 months. However to get rid of these people they are going to have to pay 14000 (are you feeling this number) people to do NOTHING for a few months. Thus degrading the shareholders equity.

All of this is occurring because Rio Tinto has taken on to much debt. It is that simple.

In 2006 Rio was sitting pretty making a net profit of 9 billion dollars with a seemingly miniscule 2.5 billion in long term debt. Shareholder equity had been growing nicely increasing 10 billion in the last 10 years. Remember boys and girls the name of the game is building equity!

They thought the profit train (based on mining boom) would go on forever so they decided to grow at an unnatural rate. Exposing their shareholders to a now $43.8 billion dollar long term debt. Pitting that figure against their equity of 28 billion makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Before sacking 14000 people, the management of this company should sack themselves for one of the stupidest decisions I have seen in a while. Of course this management group will hide behind the old ‘we didn’t know the market was going to crumble’ but a basic conservative outlook would have protected shareholders from idiotic decisions.

Sorry RIO holders, you have been crushed by the idiots in charge. I suggest you out them.

UFC92 – The Ultimate 2008

Published by SJ under General

Dana White and the UFC have done it again with a stacked card to end the year with some brutal knockouts on the 28th of December. The three fight main event features

Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans
For the Light Heavyweight Championship. Griffin is season 1 Ultimate Fighter from the reality tv show. Evans is season 2 Ultimate Fighter which makes this the first championship fight involving competitors from the show.

The UFC have also made available for free viewing both fighters final fights in the series. All you have to do is go to 92.ufc.com to watch both fights for FREE. I strongly recommend you watch Forrest Griffins fight (called Griffin TUF Finale), one of the best fights I have seen!

Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir
For the Interim Heavyweight Championship. The winner will face Brock Lesnar early next year for the undisputed championship.

Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva
The third leg of fights between these two hard bastards. Interestingly Silva has won the first two, the second of which a most devastating knees that knocked Jackson into the stratosphere.

Let me know if your interested in giving it a trundle.

Payments from on high

Published by SJ under General

I am interested with the government’s current trend of giving money to its citizens. Going all the way back to Howard’s baby bonus through to Rudd’s latest Aged Care bonus and Family bonus the government has seemingly made a decision to give away cold hard caaaaasssh.

Does this achieve the government’s goal? Well I guess we need to know what the government’s goal is. My understanding is that they are trying to artificially stimulate the economy, give it a Viagra so to speak. This should ensure that the economy is pumping and ready to produce some quality results.

As a single man living marginally above the poverty line without children I am fairly indifferent to the latest lifeline. I have a feeling our collective money could be put to better use to achieve something for all of us. But you may have a different point of view, where do you sit on this? Should the government tax us then give our money to the people that ‘need’ it or should the government tax us and put the money into services we all need?

The weekend round up

Published by SJ under General

A pretty good weekend in sport yet again.

Geoff Ogilvy played a solid final round to wrap up the Australian PGA championship yesterday afternoon. A more solid closing few holes I don’t easily recall. His drives were tremendous and shot selections into the greens were precise and risk free. His poor old playing partner Goggin will not have slept a wink last night with the relentless memories of mistakes made. I agree with one of the commentators suggesting that Goggin’s caddie perhaps should have got in his ear, but in the end its Goggin’s decisions that cost him.

Sets up an interesting market for the Australian open starting in Sydney this week. Ogilvy will have shortened into favourite more than likely but the like of Peter Senior should not be discounted. He has played pretty well in both tournaments and might be worth a little sneaky on.

Mark Skaife ended his V8 racing career on Sunday with much the same result he has achieved in the last couple of seasons. The good thing about it is that he knew his time was up and made the decision to take it like a man. Its one thing to retire when you don’t enjoy it anymore, its another to retire when you still love it but realise you aren’t good enough anymore. The only thing that confuses me is that he needs cash and my understanding is that race car drivers (even in Australia) get paid pretty well, why isn’t he hanging out for the cash?

And in boxing, Manny Pacquiao unequivocally established himself as one of the finest fighters in the world with a victory over Oscar De La Hoya. But he accomplished an even more stunning feat when he not only defeated Oscar De La Hoya but battered him into retirement with a shockingly one-sided victory. De La Hoya, was hammered from pilar to post before his trainer mercifully asked ref to halt the destruction after eight one-sided rounds. Another one of the great boxers has been beaten by the better man and basically forced into retirement. The difference with motorsport and boxing is that one race or fight to long can be deadly…. You wouldn’t necessarily say the same about a couple of cricket tests to many.

Oh, and at the time of writing I have 4 out of my nine leg all up sports bet alive for the weekend. Cheers to Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U. Kick home NY Giants, NY Jets, Green Bay, New Orleans and the Chicago Bears for me!!

George Moore into The Kingston Town

Published by SJ under General

I have another suggested punt for you tomorrow.

Brisbane race 7 a horse called Tour Guide (lucky number 13) I think has a great chance in the George Moore Group 3 at Doomben. Take it the place if you like but will be chasing the win. The current fixed odds are $12.

All up that baby into Marasco (Horse number 3) in the Kingston Town Classic which is race 7 in Perth. At the juicy fixed odds of $5.50, this is an all up bet that will pay well.

Good luck and enjoy your weekend.

Warren Buffett Speaks

Published by SJ under General

The following you tube movies are of Warren Buffett speaking at a MBA college class in around 1999. His stories seem to trail off sometimes but he has reason for everything he says. If you have an interest in investing here is a free opportunity to listen to the king of the hill. Is an hour or so viewing but I enjoyed it especially his openness in talking about mistakes.
