Nadal and St Pierre take the crown
A new number 1 of world tennis was officially crowned this evening with Nadal taking Federer to task. I know Nadal has been number 1 for a while but after this performance his security in the top position was locked in Eddy.
What I couldn’t get over is the amount of balls this bloke will run down. He is like the freaking terminator with his relentless ability to get the bal back. At some points I am sure Federer would of thought he was in actual fact playing against a brick wall!
To his credit, Federer fought like a dog but he just seemed to come up with errors at the worst times. Some of his double faults were horrendous and his unforced errors in the final set had me giving myself uppercuts. I should point out at this stage that I had Federer as the last leg of a multi leg sports bet that would have paid nicely had the Swiss dud got up. Maybe ‘dud’ is a bit unfair but after costing me some cold hard cash it’s all I can feel. He obviously didn’t bring his knife with him to this battle.
At UFC 94 Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre dominated B J Penn in the most absolute way possible. I must also disclose that I had made a reasonable investment on B J Penn as well. After telling St-Pierre he was going to try and “kill him”, “make him tap”, “make him quite” and “knock him out” barley a whimper was heard as B J’s corner wouldn’t let him out for round five, how embarrassing! I have always wondered how a fighter feels the day after he loses a fight after talking it up something chronic. I suspect B J Penn would be best positioned to advise me of this but he won’t even front the media.
On a night where nearly all the fights went to the judges score card and there were a number of long grappling wars there was one shining KO highlight. Strangely it involved the fighters I thought may go the distance. Lyoto Machida taught Thiago Silva a valuable lesson right at the end of round 1 as you will see below.
Oh and Michael Clarke is still CRAP ….. just marginally less crap than Australia are at cricket.
