The NRL Grand Final 2009

Published by SJ under General

As previously stated I won’t be watching but I can predict the winner like I am ringing a bell.

The Melbourne Storm are ABSOLUTE lock-it-in-Eddie specials!!!

They are the most moral of all morals in the history of morality. They could not be more moral if they had an electrified morality machine.

The reasons as follows and not all of them more than “truth prevails” type reasons.

  • The Storm were dudded last year with Cameron Smith suspended and deserve retribution
  • The Storm learnt a valuable lesson last year and will be more hungry
  • Hayne should not be playing and should be sitting out. He is a cheat!
  • Parra have been on a hot spell that is about to end
  • Fatsimon supports Parra and he is shite
  • I will have my hard earned on Melbourne and I have been on a sporting bet hot streak turning $100 into over $1000 in the last 3 weeks

This brings me to the betting and thanks to sportingbet.com.au prices are as follows. Corrrect as of 8:00pm 30th September – subject to change of course.

Melbourne 1.60

Line
(-4.0) 1.91
(-5.5) 2.00
(-2.5) 1.72

Margin
(1-12) 3.10
(13+) 3.10
(+12.5) 1.16

Parramatta 2.38

Line
(+4.0) 1.91
(+2.5) 2.00
(+5.5) 1.72

Margin
(1-12) 4.05
(13+) 5.15
(+12.5) 1.35

(Draw) 23.00

Oh and Cameron Smith to make up for his suspension last year with a win in the Clive Churchill medal @ 8.00

Kimbo Slice Fights this Sunday Night (Australia Time)

Published by SJ under General

Foxtel show the ultimate fighter (TUF) on Fuel TV channel 516 and this weekend sees the most anticipated fight in TUF history. Kimbo Slice will fight Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Personally I think “Big Country” should be renamed “Big Guts” and that is not a compliment about his heart.

I have no idea who will win but it should be a spectacle.

516 does not appear to be a HD channel yet but hopefully Foxtel will get this up and running soon.

It actually airs in the US on Wednesday night (Thursday morning here) with Foximon Jones delaying the broadcast until Sunday night.

Bash it up your clacker NRL

Published by SJ under General

I am done. No more watching the NRL competition for me.

Any organization that can rule Dallas Johnson’s knock on Saturday night a try has real problems. They then compounded this ridiculous decision with an even more ludicrous decision to allow Jarryd Hayne to play this seasons grand final.

Hayne made an error of judgment and knocked out an opponent with 2 knees to the head as Bryson Goodwin attempted to score a try. It was accidental but absolutely wrong. Hayne should be sitting out a couple of weeks to think about it but instead the judiciary arranged it so he was very close to a suspension but not quite.

It is clear to me now that the NRL is in the depths of damage control and are willing to try anything to save their stranglehold on the game. Even if that means breaking the rules that they created in an attempt to make sure a NSW team wins the premiership.

Typical NSW cheating losers and they have lost me.

The QRL will have another supporter next season!

Darwin, an inappropriate name for it

Published by SJ under General

Certain things to bear in mind when you travel to Darwin are.

Locals do not stop for red lights EVER.

Its hot as hell dammit. I thought Cairns was the hottest most humid hell whole on Earth…. we have a new weener.

Sitting at hotel restaurants eating dinner on your pat-ma-lone only invites “the locals” to come and talk to you. I suggest a rubber doll be substituted for a person and pretend to talk to it…. actually don’t pretend have a hearty conversation with it.

Some of “the Locals” STINK!! There is no avoiding it

A more spread out city I would like to see. Some dude decided that the city was far to close to the water to live and made suburbs literally thousands of miles away from the “CBD”

This city has less takeaway food joints per capita than any city in the world.

Sometimes for no good reason “locals” just stumble out into heavy, fast moving traffic for no apparent reason. Wits must be about all drivers or an annoying damage waiver with the insurance company you may pay. Plus the washing of the blood off the car.

There were some good things but I will save them for another day.

In his own words Sailor

Published by SJ under General

If that was my last game, I just want to be remembered as a bloke who had a go. I was never the most gifted bloke, but I love the game, I love the contest and I’m just grateful rugby league had me back after what I’d gone through.

The loss to the Broncos has left me shattered. It’s just disappointing to go out in the second week of the finals after winning the minor premiership.

The Broncos deserve credit. They are an outstanding side. They have big-match players and they deserved to win.

It was a thrill to play a game like that. It was semi-final football at its best. It was fast and the game was one of the most physical I have played in.

Coming into this game, we believed we could knock off the Broncos, but we didn’t execute and they did – and that’s why our season is over.

The Broncos are a huge chance. Ivan Henjak has done a wonderful job with them, but Melbourne on their home turf are a different animal and it will take a special performance to beat them.

We put so much into this season. When you win the minor premiership, you know you’ve done a good thing, but the Dragons had been here before as a club and we wanted more than this. No-one wants to go out in the second week of the finals.

I’m distraught about it, but Dragons fans shouldn’t be too disheartened. I know they’re sick of hearing it, but there are some great young kids here, the under-20s are going great and as long as Wayne Bennett is here the club will be in good shape.

Right now, I’ll be honest. I’m a 50-50 chance of playing on next season.

I will sit down with Wayne Bennett and Peter Doust over the next few weeks and talk to them about where I stand. If my time is up, my time is up.

But at the moment, I’m feeling good and I’m in no rush to make a decision.

The key for me is how Wayne feels because we have a close bond. I will want him to be honest with me.

I have no doubt my body can hold up for another season, but at the same time it’s not about me. I need to think about guys like Jason Nightingale and Michael Lett. I need to consider some of the younger wingers coming through and whether I’m holding them back.

———-

Well done there old chap. If you do go around again please make sure you put your hand up for Origin. That would be GOLD!!

New Rules – Promoted from a comment poster Woody(I live in a swamp I put up signs)

Published by SJ under General

FROM WOODY (I live in a swamp I put up signs)

SJ, I have a subject that I would like debated on this site as I would like this case to be judged by my peers. it involves the following senario.

While driving home this afternoon I recieve a text from a visitor to this site (whom I will call the Dr. to maintain annonimity) stating the following and I quote,

“Black Piranha resumes in 10 minutes- go the straddy winner!” (exhibit A)

Knowing full well that this person loves to punt at any time of the day or night on any event going, I felt that a random text like this on a wednesday afternoon should get my full attention, so while driving across the gateway in peak hour traffic I fire up the Iphone click on http://www.tabonline.com.au (don’t worry its in my favourites folder) enter password and account details, find and locate correct race and fill out the betting form, plonking $20 of my own hard earned on the nose all while maintaining 80kmh.
Tune in the radio to a.m. and eagerly await the result, good run but finishes second, ce la vie, So I send text back “easy come easy go.” Now I don’t mind a losing bet on a near thing when someone gives it to me in my best interest, hell knows I have tipped a few of them in my time, but wait there is more.

Then to my horror I recieve a text back from “the Dr.” reading and I quote,

“Smashed the winner”. (exhibit B)

He then claims further to have never tipped black piranha to me.

So my question has 2 parts,
1. Do you think his/her first text qualifies as a tip?
2. and if so does he/she owe me compensation as my losing bet influences a better winning price for his horse?

I will stand by judges decission. visitors and SJ let me know your feelings please.

I now have a new code of conduct rule for the notasmartman rule book “no tips unless your own hard earned is on it!!”

———

Woody,

Once reading your plight I could not publish this fast enough. Your well thought out, well presented argument left me feeling a real sense of “been there before brother”, perhaps even at the hands of the very same “visitor”.

Dr. you are a disgrace!

From this day forward you may not tip anyone on anything unless you have put money on said tip yourself. Unless public opinion overturns this rule…

I will publish your response Dr. and leave it to the general public as follows.

Warmest regards,

SJ

——-

FROM the DR.

I had a winner – enough said!

I also await judgement from my peers.

Ps – notification of significant events does not constitute a tip. I merely held concern that the harder working and less focussed of the group may not be aware of the ‘Blacks’ return.
