Highlights from UFC 107

Published by SJ under General

BJ Penn is the man. I keep betting against him and keep giving money to the man who makes book.

Thanks to Joe Lauzon for the link and the UFC for releasing highlight vids finally.

Kerry O’Keeffe – a hard Lesson

Published by SJ under General

In case you are not familiar with Skull here he is.

A joke to warm up the crowd

Our good friends at sportingbet.com.au have supplied me with an interesting interview with ABC Cricket commentator and former Australian test leg spinner the ‘Skull’ Kerry O’Keefe. If you have ever enjoyed listening to Skull on the radio with that infectious laugh then you may also enjoy the following interview.

A life of punting taught Kerry O’Keefe a hard lesson: never back England to win anything.

What was your greatest win?
In the late 70’s I part-owned a dour stayer called Vivatus. The dear fellow won a distance race in Randwick at 70/1. The winnings bought me a home unit.

Any near misses?
I backed Australia strongly to beat England 4-1 in the Ashes of 2006/7. ‘Freddy’ Flintoff fell in love with Australian wine and the Poms got hammered 5-0. Note to self: never back England to win anything.

What is your golden rule?
Never bet on golf, nor back Melbourne Cup runners who have had more than 30 starts.

Do you have any punting theories or systems?
I have a racehorse punting system developed by a stonemason in the Sutherland shire. Put it simply, the last two starts of a horse have to add up to 8 or less and it has to have raced in the last ten days. If there is only one qualifier in the race – and there are no odds-on pop in the field – bet each way if the horse is paying between $3 and $8. The system works best at Sandown, Flemington and Warwick Farm.

Have you got a favourite that has always looked after you?
Doriemus in the 1995 Melbourne Cup. Our home needed new carpet and I plonked all that we’d saved up on this brilliant stayer without telling my wife. Doriemus saluted, and a new carpet was laid the following week.

Any superstitions?
Don’t back P Harvey in Perth after 5pm Sydney time to get out of trouble. Everbody else does that and you are taking unders!

Do you prefer a bold front-running horse or a back-marker that flashes home?
I love front-runners. Ethiopian and Kenyan distance runners, Vo Rogue, the Australian cricket team.

Do you still own horses?
Currently I am involved in the ownership of Skullas Sister and Sippa Bubbly, both with a lot of talent and both trained by the gifted horseman Tracey Bartley at Mudgee.

What is your most memorable moment on a racetrack?
Kissing Vivatus in the winners circle when he won at Randwick in 1981. He had shocking breath and his sweat ruined my suit but I didn’t care.

Which horse could have a big summer?
Sippa Bubbly, if she gets on the race track.

Cheers to Bill Richmond from SportingMail Magazine.

Strange spiral in sky over Norway: UFO?

Published by SJ under General

I have seen some pretty good fake UFO footage before but the following was filmed from a number of different locations and looked the same from everywhere.

What the hell is it?

I slept with Tiger too

Published by SJ under General

Well I guess it is time I waded into this Tiger rubbish. As some of you will recall from ‘The Tiger Train’ I stated that.

“He has 14 career major wins, impressive yes but WELL behind the record of Jack Nicklaus’s who managed to win an awesome 18 majors. People keep telling me that Tiger will beat his record easy but until he does, he is not the best golfer in the world. Until then, the GOLDEN BEAR remains the greatest golfer alive today.”

When I wrote this, most people would have thought that he will go on to claim the title of greatest ever golfer and that I was a bit of a moron. As it stands today there must be some doubt that this will definitely happen and my moron status should be put on hold for a little while. I must say that I am even more surprised that a golfers life has made such huge news around the world. He is even major news in the trusted Spiegel which disappoints me a little.

What also confuses me is why these woman have waited until someone else came forward to admit these affairs apparently occurred. Yes ‘apparently’, it is just their word that equates to gospel allowing the media to tut tut tut Tiger all over the shop. Once again the lines of public life and private life are blurred by an ever increasing group of “reporters” and “media organizations” questioning the lives of poppies.

Worse than that, a lot of people eat it up as if it were a matter of life or death.

Green the destroyer

Published by SJ under General

I did not spring for the $49.95 to watch the Green V Jones Jr fight last night but I was lucky enough to view on a ustream.tv website. Not the best quality but it did the job on the night. The following You Tube clip gives a much better view of the action.

While I picked Jones Jr and honestly thought he would win I have never been happier to lose a bet!

I was a little disappointed with some of the coverage this massive victory for Green achieved in the international media. Instead of them being impressed with Greens performance they were more suggesting that Roy did not put 100% in and this was only some sort of warm up fight for Bernard Hopkins. And instead of mentioning Green’s name in the mix for the next round of big fights, the discussion focused on how Jones Jr could possibly get back into the
mix himself.

I understand that Jones Jr is the legend here but he was stopped and stopped in a devastating fashion. I hope to goodness that Green is given a real crack at the big-time because he has proven he is a great sportsman, excellent boxer and can knock dudes the hell OUT!

It is the Green Machines time.
