New drink driving limit

Published by SJ under General

The Queensland state government has released the Drink Driving in Queensland Discussion Paper, which canvasses dropping the general alcohol limit from 0.05 to 0.02. Apparently “In 2009, there were 71 fatalities involving alcohol on our roads, which equated to 21.5 per cent of the entire road toll in Queensland,” Premier Anna Bligh said in a statement. I would have thought she had enough on her plate but in between appearing on celebrity chef and re-reading Peter Beattie’s autobiography she has come up with a beauty!

I would like to know how many of these 71 deaths were as a result of a driver being under 0.05 and above 0.02. Going out on a limb here I will wager a million bux on zero. People who drink and drive do so for a few reasons

a) They do not give a crap about the laws or killing others
b) They do give a crap but run the gauntlet anyway
c) They think they are under the limit but are not

The major problem is the first two. No one disputes this from any side of the argument.

The third, while breaking the law are statistically least likely to be in a fatal accident, yet this is whom the state government is proposing to target.

If it were any more obvious it would be laughable for goodness sake! This is an attempt at pure revenue raising! I will give them some credit, they doing their level best to achieve this under the guise of protecting us from ourselves but they destroy their argument by targeting the wrong group of people.

You can leave your thoughts on the matter here. I have
