Apple Iphone Version 2.0

Published by SJ at 3:19 am under General

I was amused yesterday at the release of the latest Iphone from apple. A trend is growing that I noticed at the release of the Macbook Air. Steve Job’s, Apples co founder and apparent messiah stands in the middle of a packed media conference, announces his latest product release and reveals it in some manner. Out of an envelope of from his pocket, the presentation of said product is always met with resounding applause.

Yep, that’s what is happens, the worlds media come to the release of a new product and immediately, on the products first glimpse, randomly snap into fits of cheers and clapping.

Perception is a powerful thing, especially for Joe Public. My perception is that Apple are a crafty bunch of marketers who release average products. Obviously the “press conference’ is just a group meeting for company staff dressed up to be perceived in a media grab as a ‘press conference’ release. Microsoft have tried this approach before as well, except someone kept putting failing products in the hands of Sir Gates allowing for hilarity to ensue.

From what I read yesterday in the paper, only Vodaphone and Optus are supporting the iPhone. Not Telstra. Telstra notes what is popular and what the consumer wants, then decides that it is too cool to do that, and does the opposite. I was thinking the other day how the phone has replaced a lot of other items people used to carry around – calendar, notebook, cd player, etc. Why cant they take this one step further and replace my entire wallet. I need a place for notes, a condom dispenser, some card space and a place for discount vouchers. I can then stop lumping around a huge wallet and a phone.
Replacing a females handbag however is another story. We would end up back where mobiles first started, when they were the size of a brick and needed a seperate power pack you strapped over your shoulder. At the bar the other day, after a few ales, I enquired to the lady beside me what was in her rather large bag. She opened it. Guess what was inside? Another bag, a smaller one. What was in that bag I asked? She basically had everything required for surviving in the desert for 2 weeks. I think thats the armys motto isnt it? Be prepared? She was.

Why wouldnt people randomly clap. Its a great product so they clap accordingly!

Be prepared is the boyscouts motto…. not the army.

The army choses the ‘kill everyone and let god sort them out’ line

Marteeen (Velcraps dumber less interesting brother), I was suckered into reading your entire dreadfully long dreary post, anticipating a clever punchline or at least an interesting finish. It was not to be. The entire thing was rubbish. Try something different. We already have 1 Velcrap!!

Yes Marteen those old brick phones were hilarious. I always enjoyed seeing the Microsft product releases go bad, finally Bill Gates gets a slight taste of what it feels like for everyone else who uses Windows
