Beer Bitches

Published by SJ at 7:50 pm under General

Todays blog was going to be an attack on anyone who has ever purchased an imported beer over a local beer. I then realized that I drink Tooheys New and while that is technically not imported it is owned by on overseas group. Regardless, I am going to attack you yuppie types anyways.

I have done a little experiment that proves vital in determining the intelligence of anyone who drinks imports.

I start off by asking them that if a local beer cost $1 and the imported beer cost $2 what would they buy? The answer is always “duh imported one”. I then try the same question at 4 and 8 bucks and get the same response. Ask yourself a question, if the local was $10 and the import was $20 which one would you get? A true supporter of import beer would be poor. A yuppie would turn back into an Aussie as quick as it takes to brew a Short Macchiato.

What the hell are you doing to Australia! You are not fooling anyone yuppie boys. I know who you are. You are the same niff nuff want to be’s you were when you were 18 years old but now you think you are sophisticated. Listen to me now, you are not sophisticated. As much as you like to get dressed up and do your hair all pretty you are a dirty rotten nothing brother loser.

Let me tell you who should be drinking imported beers. The people who live in the country the beer comes from and or was created in! Lets face it, if it was so good why would they be sending there crap to Australia! Take Corona, a beer that in Mexico is a run of the mill beer. But bring it to Australia and charge $8 a pop and BAM you have a top seller. Get this through your head morons it is CRAP. It is so crap you need to add a lemon or lime or freaking Tabasco sauce to get it to taste anything approaching palatable. And NEVER again will I be put in a situation where I am heading to a BBQ or party and being forced to look through Quick-E-Mart shelves for limes or lemons to go with Corona’s because some niff nuff yuppie bought some beers and forgot to bring the flavour.

Ask me and see what happens!

Australia has some great beers, but some of the imports are pretty good too. I just think it’s great we now have the choice of a thoooousand beers and we can buy what we want, rather than the selection we had years ago of VB, XXXX or Tooheys.

For my birthday one year I went to where they brew Hoegaarden. After a few train rides, a dodgy bus trip, foreign language difficulties and pounding the pavement down a quiet country road with no traffic for what seemed like an eternity, I eventually found the brewery. It’s a great beer for something different and the trek made it taste even better. One of the happiest days of my life was when they started selling it in Australia.

And it’s not one of those ‘imported’ beers that they secretly brew in Australia.

Why are locally brewed imported beers the same price as imported beers?

Mate you need to check the labels, corona made in australia under license, stella made in australia under license, hienekin made in australia that japanese crap made in australia under license the majority of them all made here in our major breweries but don’t understand why you are charged extra and agree with you on the corona taste thing. At least we are still supporting australian workers even if the profits go off shore

Shirvo, I think drinking a fine beer (what constitutes a fine beer is in the eye (taste buds) of the beholder) is like drinking a fine red, you generally do it for taste, texture, length and complexity, and accordingly price is less of an issue in such circumstances. With beer there are times to enjoy a Kronenbourg or Stella irrespective of price and brewery locality. Likewise there are times when 20 schooners of XXXX will do the job. What should be understood is that at no time, ever, should people drink VB.

In some respects you can equate your argument to gambling. If the goal is to have a bet then surely you are better having $1 on a 100/1 chance (you will afford more bets but none of them are really any good). If the goal is to get a return then perhaps $100 on an even money chance is a better wager. Given that I generally see Shirvo having larger bets on shorter odds, I assume you do appreciate the need to invest in value, and as such appear to be some what duplicitous in your ‘Beer Bitches’ post above.

PS Do you limit your spirits to Bundaberg Rum?

PS Friday arvo – I’m off to have a Naked Blonde (low carb low alcohol – now that is worth a blog!)

I only drink imported beers that are different to Aussie ones and not the ones owned by mega breweries.

The brewed under licence thing is a crime in my mind and I would be interested in hearing from anyone that would like to join me in a class action against this shocking case of misleading conduct.

As for me I prefer to drink aussie micro brewery beer as it is made from the best ingredients not cornsyrup and whatever the cheapest ingredients are.

So stop drinking pretend imported beer SJ….I agree…..keep drinking aussie mega swill like xxxx, Tooheys etc no thanks………..support small local breweries and you will know what great tasting fresh beer is!!

Typical racist rubbish. You don’t want any foreign beers invading your local beers because of fear they will be better. Your pricing argument is moronic and you should check the labels of these imported beers. Most of them are brewed here in Australia under license.

“support small local breweries and you will know what great tasting fresh beer is”

You obviously have no real knowledge about beer or brewing do you? Beer is not fresh.

Anyone who thinks that Microbrewey’s are the way to go is a compete twat. it is nothinng more than home brew with a fancy label.

Jethro, are you trying to wind me up????

Do I need to remind you of the last time you got me worked up………at least you didn’t make any spelling mistakes…edit….just checked again…..you did!!!!

If beer is not fresh then what is it? Stale?

Lion Nathan and CUB beers are nothing but homebrew but with all the taste removed and a thousand chemicals added.

    Twat!

Rob B…I have travelled the world and tasted most of these beers in their country of origin……the brewed under licence are NOTHING like they are overseas.

Listen to you squabbling like school children. “I know beer better than you!” “No you don’t I do”

    Nothing beats VB

  9. tigeron 14 Aug 2009 at 2:59 pm

I’m ‘working from home’ and enjoying some brews in my shed.

Everything beats VB and if I ever go to punch bowl I will be beating you too!!!

You are to agressive tiger. There is no need for it everyone has a point of view don’t get angry if it differs from yours.

  11. The Keyon 14 Aug 2009 at 4:26 pm

Shirvo, nice rant.. but I have paid an enormous amount for a decent beer.. Something about german/austrian beers tasted inhouse at their brewery’s can not be beaten.. so to get a little taste of that pleasure again in a small 330ml bottle imported direct to our shores is worth a little extra.
Any beer brewed here with our 3rd world water supply is always going to be shite.. so good to keep away from any ‘brewed under licence’ crap.

I have one thing to say about this subject, The only good beer, is a free beer….
