Chael ‘Freckles’ Sonnen is the KING

Published by SJ under General

In case you don’t know Anderson Silva is please allow me to explain.

Anderson Silva has been in the UFC since 2006. In his first fight he KO’d his opponent who had never been knocked out before. His next fight was against Rich Franklin for the UFC middleweight championship which he won by KO breaking Franklin’s nose in the process. Since then he has been on an absolute tear through the division defending his title 9 times and winning another 3 non title fights. The guy is legitiamately undefeated since 2004 and has some of the most devastating highlight reel knock outs in the history of all combat sport.

Apparently this is not enough for one Chael ‘Freckles’ Sonnen who had the following to say about the champion after his dominant win yesterday…..

October

Published by SJ under General

Once again we are in the midst of the greatest sporting month of the year which means it is time to top the sportingbet.com.au account up, get the gluteous maximus stretched & ready and prepare your liver for an assualt not seen for nearly 12 months.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the month of OCTOBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the smell of tyre smoke, race horses and bludgoened faces in the morning. Thus far we have not been disapointed with a double header grand final edition last weekend we head into this weekends Bathurst 1000 knowing that we will also get to see Black Caviar try and equal the great Phar Laps winning streak and two world UFC world titles defended. I don’t think there has been a bigger sporting weekend in the history of the world and it all goes down in a matter of days. I can barely sit in one spot much less concentrate on any non-sport related activities for more than 3 consecutive minutes.

Let the enhanced enjoyment begin.

2011 NRL Premiership Fix – Manly complete the conspiracy in style.

Published by SJ under General

If it was not enough to convince you that last week the NRL / referee’s cheated the Broncos out of a grand final birth in Darren Lockyer’s last season lets look at a list of further proof that confirms the someone in high power only wanted Manly to win this years premiership.

• Sam Thaiday was suspended for two games for no apparent reason
• The referee’s blew a 5 – 1 penalty count in the first half of a qualifying final in which at least 4 of the penalties were complete rubbish
• Steve Matai came in with some late knees to Jharal Yow Yeh’s back after he scored a try and should have been suspended like Steve Renouf was in the exact same circumstances. Inexplicably Matai gets off with no suspension.
• Tony Williams hit Jharal Yow Yeh with a legit high shot to the jaw in a tackle and got off with no suspension.
• Glenn Stewart instigated a fight with a Melbourne player and got one week less suspension than the very player he attacked.
• Brett Stewart should have been sent to jail but got off scot free.
• Jamie Lyon had a contract with Paramatta – pretended to be home sick then a week later moved to England presumably to be nearer his home?
• George Rose during the grand final lands a blatant leading elbow that any UFC fighter would be proud of KO’ing his opponent and gets off a slap on the wrist. He should have been sent off or at least given 10 minutes in the sin bin.
• Tony Watmough faces the sidline, plays the ball and is not penalized, even though the rules clearly state that a player must be facing the opposing try line – not side line.
• NZ Hooker Aaron Heremaia about to tackle Michael Robertson when Sea Eagles halfback Daly Cherry-Evans obstructed the NZ player from completing the tackle. Robertson continued downfield and a try was scored in the next play. This should have been a NZ penalty not a Manly try.

It is clear to anyone with an ounce of knowledge that this was the biggest fix since 1919.

The only visible members of the conspiracy so far are Matt Cecchin and Tony Archer. We will see if more comes to the surface soon.

Guernseys

Published by SJ under General

Jeez I was annoyed Saturday night! For some reason the AFL allowed Carlton and the West Coast Eagles to play in nearly the same colour blue Jersey’s. Carlton of course are all blue but the West Coast we playing in a blue quiet similar to Carlton.

Granted the Eagles had white shorts and other colours on the jersey but man, on certain angles throughout the game on the night it was next to impossible to determine who was about to pick up a ball and pass it on the fly. Especially when you have some money on it.

Wake up to yourself Demetriou! Letting teams like Collingwood and the like dictate to you is as weak as piss. Iron fist dammit!

Ridiculous.

Boxing = Joke and other life lessons

Published by SJ under General

For far to long the sport of boxing has over-hyped and under-delivered. When I say over-hyped I mean they talk about upcoming fights like a life and death struggle between evil and evil-er. Then it comes to the fight and it is as underwhelming as that first sip of vanilla Coke – yes that bad.

Look at this prime example

Once again people who have forked out up to $70 have been treated to nothing more than a school playground display.

Boxing is a CLEAR example of what happens to a sport when you let the player dictate the day to day running of the sport. A CLEAR example of what happens when you a player think and act like they are bigger than the sport. This is what will happen every time.

The sport of boxing is corrupt and broken at its core. The sport is in dire need of someone to step up, take the whole thing over and run it with an iron fist. Unfortunately this will never happen. The self interest of those currently in any position of power will ensure boxings decline as a relevant sport will continue until it is some fanciful tale we tell our grandchildren about.

“Yes Jimmy, they used to fight each other but could only use their fists. Yes it was pretty special and a really interesting sport. What happened to boxing you ask? Well its a sad tale of self interest ruling above all else which meant the sport withered and died.”

Luckily for those who like combat sports there is an alternative to the garbage that boxing has now become.

UFC 135 – The one we have all waited for

Published by SJ under General

Ok, back in March I spruiked the greatest cherries out of the middle of the bat to the boundary for four bits bets of all time for Jon ‘Bones’ Jones to win the world title at UFC 128. In that instance I was 100% correct and collected a tidy $785 for my efforts. This time at UFC 135 we see….

….and while still confident I am not declaring it a lock. I think there is an opportunity to make money on this fight and will probably be betting on Jon Jones to finish it inside the distance but there is something about Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson that leaves me thinking he could pull something off – but its a small part of me. Lets be clear, Rampage is a bad man and has the power to put anyone anywhere to sleep and while Rampage has improved his stand up significantly I just don’t think he can compete skill-wise, speed-wise or athletically against Bones.

I really think Bones makes Rampage stay on the stool after round four – if he makes it that long.

On top of that it is all for the strap

Here is a EXCLUSIVE! UFC 135 Jones vs Rampage Trailer.

This movie pumped me up bigtime! and I found it pretty interesting to see how they lay there training schedule out on the white boards.

Anyway here is the rest of the card which kicks off from my joint.

The Co-Mainevent sees Matt Hughes take on Josh Koscheck in a long awaited welterweight match. Josh Kosheck’s team at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) thought that none of them would ever get a crack at the former champion and UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes well be careful what you wish for because here it is!!!

LIVE Sunday, September 25 from 11am. Undercard starts earlier.

The normal cover charge applies.
