Festivus for the rest of us

Published by SJ at 10:26 am under General

Continuing the Christmas theme I thought it prudent to mention my hatred of this particular holiday. Here is why

its not the commercialism
its not the increased price of petrol
its not the ridiculous lack of taxi’s
its not the annoyingly large crowds on the inane search for the perfect gift
its not the pretending to like people who you really don’t care to much for
its not the good will that will soon disappear
its not the ridiculously hot day that rolls around every year
its not the Christmas carols that can’t disappear fast enough
its not the inter-office secret Santa gifts that should be set on fire
its not the rubbish that seems to take over all television channels

IT IS because after all these months of hearing about it, counting down, advertising and ‘Christmas cheer’ we only get 2 official days off work. What a gip!

So I have decided that I will take a leaf out of one of my favourite TV characters scripts. This year is a Festivus for the rest of us. Instead of a tree, we will have an aluminin pole with no decoration. I find tinsel distracting. There will be no presents, instead we will tell all the people around us how they have disappointed us over the last year!

Sorry to rain on your parade if you like this holiday, but I personally believe the whole dam thing is a crock of crap! Or maybe I need to take some sort of medication to be able to join the rest of you.

Fair thee Festivus!

I agree that Christmas has become far to comercial and it is very difficult trying to get around from shop to shop this time of year. You also forgot to mention how hard it is to get a park at this time of year!

To true Rob B, it is nearly impossible to get a park at the shops at this time of year.

Maybe you should change the names to Mega Man Shirvy and Mega spots Moorey. They would appear more appropriate

People are starting to forget what Christmas is all about…. (The Birth of Jesus Christ) it has become way to comercial.

Just to cover off some of your points SJ-

*Increased price of petrol—-Petrol will always increase no matter what time of the year it is.

*The ridiculous lack of taxi’s—Taxi’s are just not around at 3am anytime throughout the year.

*The pretending to like people who you really don’t care to much for—If all people cared more the world would be a better place. Maybe your the 1 that does not care about others?

*The rubbish that seems to take over all television channels—Get Foxtel….Wrestling, Simpsons what more can you ask for.

You know what I always get for Chirstmas?

Hank E, I don’t care about “some” people (I speak of the work environment), I admit it. Unfortunatley you can’t go around telling them you don’t like them, so we are all forced to pretend to like them. I just don’t like pretending. Maybe you are lucky, you like everyone and everyone likes you. Not personal, just an opinion.

“Maybe your the 1 that does not care about others?” I don’t agree with you here Hank E. People do pretend to like each other this time of year. Then as soon as Christmas is over they go back to there normal behaviour. It is so see through and fake!

One of the things I do care about Rob B is Christmas….the remarks SJ made in this BLOG seem to come from a person who does not care. Thats why I made that comment…..Thats my opinion. It wasn’t directed at you. If SJ received a Wrestling DVD for Christmas or a bottle of Rum….I bet you he would be over the moon & keep it…..that would be hypercritical….If i’m wrong SJ tell me & I will eat my words. If you don’t like Christmas, then don’t be apart of it, don’t receive any present.

People dont care, it’s not just at Christmas time….it happens all yr around. Most of the time it’s the people that don’t care that are 1st in line to get a present from someone & then complain about it being not good enough or not big enough.

You shouldn’t just come out at Christmas time, Easter, Birthdays & so on & try to make a point.

I do agree with you about people not caring & putting on a fake face.

You have a right to not agree with me Rob B but do not take things personally.

Hank E you raise an interesting point. My family this year has agreed not to get presents for each other. I am very happy with this decision!! If someone were to randomly give me a gift and not expect anything in return it would be awkward for me to take it, but it may be rude to refuse it. I personally would rather receive nothing and give nothing.

I wasn’t taking it personally Hank E. I was just stating that I didn’t agree with you on that particular point. We will just agree to disagree.
