He’s getting to me
I love my Rugby League. Yes call me a dirty rotten bevan all you like but I love it. I was bought up in an AFL household and I am proud to say that we ended up a League household. Over the years the superior game became apparent and was made the staple television diet during winter, especially at origin time.
I have a few concerns about the NRL at the moment, the softness in head high tackle penalties, the lack of the occasional biff but the biggest threat is a man, a man called Phil Gould. As a commentator talking about the game in general I can live with him, I even sometimes enjoy his insight but he is starting to wear thin in one area.
His over the top whinging!!!!
The video referee should be banned.
The video referee does not understand the game
It takes to long to make a decision.
There are to many delays in the play
The referee should take control of the game himself
The referee’s don’t understand what a shepard is
That wasn’t a knock on
That wasn’t a head high
That wasn’t a forward pass
Sure there is reason to have a whinge sometimes and I am not saying that any of the above are not legitimate gripes but dude….. drop it back a notch. You will get a title role on this blog if you continue down the sookin path.

Typical Queenslanders having a whinge about the greatest coach of all time just because he is a New South Welshman. All I can say is thank goodness Fatty no longer comentates. You think Gouldy is bad, fatty was 10 times worse.

Rob if he just stuck to coaching that would be fine, but it’s because of t.v. coverage that we have all the stopages in play, if channel nine didn’t show over and over again slow motion footage people would have very little reason to doubt the refs call, but now the refs are too scared that they make the wrong call and can’t/won’t make the tuff calls with out going to the video tape. Then t.v. commentators want to complain about delays, go figure.
For the record I am a Raiders supporter and I’ve had to take more than my fair share of bad calls over over the last few years but that’s just the “rub of the green” and i live in hope that 2008 is the year of the green machine of old……. if not there is always 2009.
Stick to coaching Phil you at least have an understanding on how to carry out that job and leave the commentating to the silver tongues.

I am happy to see someone else supports the mighty Raiders. After the Broncos they are my favourite team. If has been a tough old few years for them but I reckon they will scrape into the top 8 at the end of the year. You heard it here FIRST!

I’m with you shirvy, i actually enjoy listening to what phil has to say most of the time and he’s got quite a good footy head on his shoulders. His days of NSW bias seem to be mostly behind him now.
While too many of his rants and raves do wear thin, I quite enjoy listening to his opinionated comments.
There is however one commentator i can’t stand……..ray warren. It’s good we’re hearing less of him thesedays, but i’m sure he’ll be back in time for origin. Maybe the swimmers could but his head under water 3 times and bring it up twice.

I tried that last year tiger but it doesn’t work so well with a digital broadcast that is a couple of seconds behind the radio broadcast.
You’ll hear HG jump up & down with excitement as Dale Shearer scores in his comeback match, yet on TV you’re just seeing him get the ball on his own goalline!
I don’t much like Gouldy but I prefer to listen to proper commentary than people trying to be funny. Origin is real and should be treated seriously not to be made a joke out of.
Gouldy does carry on a bit. I think someone just needs to sit him down and tell him that his passion is good but he just needs to slow down on the negativity. He may be related to that IASM bloke who can’t help himself with negative comments about everyone on this site.
I tried the similcast last year with Roy & HG (was great when living in QLD) but the tv coverage down here is about two hours behind if they show it at all (they only know one sport down here, it is called AFL). We don’t get many NRL games and they are normally on past midnight. Lucky we are moving to Canberra tomorrow.
