How we do things
We are coming up to the Christmas period and I am fairly certain that the normal road safety ads are just around the corner. No matter where you live in this country there will be a number of messages provided to us through the media, some of which being.
Don’t drink and drive
Don’t speed
Don’t drive tired
My question refers back to the statement above “No matter where you live” you will hear basically the same message. Yet each state (and possibly territory) is spending individual state dollars to create marketing campaigns to ‘educate’ us about these subjects. This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. The only people who win out of this are the multitudes of companies around the country earning money creating slightly different marketing campaigns.
I doubt an anti speeding ad would work differently in NSW as it would in WA (happy to hear arguments to the contrary). Based on this assumption I think that the states need to come together (would take 2 hours) and decide which messages they want to spread this year. Then pool their cash and pay ONE company to come up with a national campaign.
The end result would still be a suitable marketing campaign and a little more money for the states to spend on other pressing matters.

SJ, you have stumbled across a key issue in the Australian political system. Three levels of governemnt is too much and creates this sort of waste in nearly every aspect of govenring this beautiful country.
Then to make it worst states can’t even work together.
We are all apying the price for this in ridiculous levels of taxation, stamp duties etc.
Marketing camapigns are just the tip of the iceberg.
I say we need to scrap state politics, keep federal and improve the quality of the representation at the local level.
Anyone feel like storming/taking over an airport or two?
Some political sense. Am I on the correct site???
Your post may be quite timely SJ as in the last 2 weeks the Federal govt released their $20m ‘Don’t turn a night out into a nightmare’ anti-binge drinking campaign.
Typically this type of advertising has been conducted by the states, just as the driving campaigns have been. But now it looks like the Fed is starting to centralise some of this. Good idea in my book, as like Tiger, I also question the need for state governments.
Congrats on being first to post again Tiger. I imagine Boring will be setting his alarm a bit earlier tomorrow to beat you to it!
I tend to believe there is a reason that it has been done this way. I also believe that each state targets a different strategy at different times which would make it hard to do what you are saying.
It makes sense to tweak the campaigns for certain local markets.
Like Tassie and NT, where the reading ages are significantly lower…………….
Rob B, do you by any chance own an agency?
Tiger,
Can you give me examples of where you might tweak a campaign for NT or Tasmania? I look forward to your response.
SJ
Well with the reading age lower you might not want to use large words, it works for my approach on this site!!
I would also refer to either sisters/brothers/cousins in the different executions.
NT
Slow down in your valiant when you’re pissed as your cousin may be crossing the road to get to the boozer.
Tassie
Slow down…….chances are you are related to the innocent person you are about to kill.
Do they even have cars in tasmania?
They have about 300000 in Tasmania (cars that is) and two roads.
Tigress, your poorly veiled racism & incestuous implications are disgusting & have diluted some otherwise clever & funny commentary!! Lift your game & do NOT follow the way of the lowlifes like Velcrap & the Skunk!!
Rabbit & Krusty, nice to have you both back in my game.
IASM, I spared you and your race, be thankful, but thanks for the feedback ‘I’ll take it on board’………which to join the dots for you is code for me ignoring everything you said.
I’m sure SJ hears it from his boss all the time!!!
