Mundine points it out again.

Published by SJ at 7:08 am under General

I have wondered how Muhamad Ali was percieved during his career as a talented loud mouth boxer during the 60′s and 70′s. Was he disliked as much as Anthony Mundine seems to be dislike now? I may have asked this before but I still wonder.

Regardless, Mundine is the man now who is trying to walk the talk and in my opinion he isn’t quite doing it. Last night he dropped to the middleweight division and battled to a decision against former world title contender Shannon Taylor. Taylor in his time was a pretty reasonable fighter but I honestly think the much larger Mundine should have been able to put him away last night. I didn’t shell out the $50 to get the fight on PPV so I don’t know the ins and outs of the whole battle but it didnt sound like a terribly glamorous affair with Mundine winning every round in a foul filled event.

The $50 is a sore point for me as well. Why should I pay $50 to watch a main event fight and a few undercard fighters I have never heard of when I can pay $40 for UFC events that have much higher quality of fights and fitness and put on a much better show. I vote with my feet.

Anyway, this victory puts Mundine in line for a middleweight title fight agains German Felix Sturm which could mean a long delay for anyone hoping to see Green V Mundine again anytime soon. If Mundine beats Sturm it would surely mean a unification bout with the well regarded Kelly Pavlick is no longer a pipe dream and an undisputed middlewhieght champion of the world could be crowned in 12 months. If Mundine keeps winning and Green can’t make middleweight than a ‘Green V Mundine 2′ fight might be years off rather than months off.

Hey IASM, no doubt you were in Mundine’s rooms after the fight. Did he just go easy on Taylor, or was it a bit of a struggle?

The sooner Mundine fights some quality opposition the better. Hopefully he can break his own record for longest sleep ever in a boxing ring.

Surprising that the UFC costs nearly as much as the real stuff. Those actors must take a pretty big cut of the takings.

Mundine is not disliked by any decent people. Its just the lower end of society who think that way.

I hope he gets his crack at the title now. It is sad that things like this can hold a person back from their true potential, even in this day and age.

    Please elaborate.

I wish Mundine was knocked out last night. I can’t stand that loud mouthed prick. The sooner he is gone the better.

Well Rob B, I’m still waiting. Please tell me what the ‘decent’ people see that the other 21.5 million of us don’t. He’s an arrogant loud mouth who constantly trash talks his opponents and anyone else who gets in the way, he told the Americans that they brought Sept 11 on themselves, burnt another country’s flag in a music video, accused rugby league selectors of racism for not picking him in the test side even though he barely made the bench for his state, tried to ban Taylor from having the Australian national anthem playing for his entry into the ring, and even his fan website has messages from Aboriginals telling him he is a disgrace to indigenous Australians.

Admittedly you hear stories of his generosity towards people in need and that he is a humble, caring person to those who know him, so perhaps most of the above is an act.

If that’s the case, he’s even more of a disgrace because he is deliberately choosing to act the way he does.
