NRL off to a flyer

Published by SJ at 1:47 pm under General

Another football season has arrived and for some reason all that was talked about on last nights footy show was player behaviour off the field. I am not sure why this is a big deal but it appears to be one. It is such a big deal that certain people are calling for a complete players ban on alcohol. I don’t understand how anyone thinks that this is a viable solution.

How would this be enforced? What are they going to do? Pop random breath tests on a Saturday night while a player is sitting at home watching other teams play having played himself the night before. Are they serious? You play Friday night and train Saturday morning and you do not have the right to sit in your own home and have a beer while watching the game?

I know this is not the sort of behaviour they are trying to stop but it is the majority of behaviour that occurs. There are 272 individuals who will play every weekend and this year there has been 2 incidents over a four week trial period so far. That is an occurrence a staggering 0.18% of the time! Yep lets ban players from alcohol for that…. even better lets just ban rugby league totally.

What are we banning next? Perhaps some of these media people should put there own hands up for an alcohol ban, they are also role models, in a sick and twisted sort of way. Come on Ray Hadless, Come on Phil Gould, Come on (it hurts me to say) Fatty, if you are going to talk the talk its time you walked the walk. I am absolutely sure there are people out there who can come up with some pretty bad and shocking true stories about you blokes in your youth. Oh wait a minute, oh hang on, that’s right, you blokes are hipster-hypocrites who don’t seem to remember the smell of your own turds. It sure seems the current smell is so bad that it has well and truly cancelled out your own.

They should absolutely be banned from alcohol. I can’t believe you are just ignoring the fact that this animal raped a girl. What is wrong with you?

You think this sort of behaviour is ok do you? Your answer should be an emphatic no!!!

I think it stinks that the game I grew up playing and love so much is always in the headlines for the wrong reasons. There are some gentlemen who play the game, but unfortunately it is the drunk niffs that get the media spotlight.

I don’t think a grog ban is needed but why are players getting smashed a week before season kickoff?

What you will NEVER understand is what it is to be a professional athlete! Alcohol impairs performance & it should be banned outright for NRL players. After they finish their careers, if they still decide to turn out a loser like you & choose to drink at that point, then so be it. In the mean-time they will have set a fantastic example for society….you know like the opposite of what you bevans do.

I don’t think he’s ignoring the fact at all Rob B, he’s just suggesting that there may be an alternative solution. By the way, since the overwhelming majority of rapes are committed by non-footballers, should alchohol be banned for everyone?

The other point you should consider is that it is ALLEGED that he SEXUALLY ASSAULTED that girl. For you to say that he raped her is innaccurate and your assumption of guilt is dangerous. If he did, then he should go to jail like everyone else, but you need to let people who have some idea decide that.

IASM, you are a complete idiot. The existance of alchohol is the one and only hope you have of ever finding a partner, so you should be careful. And what do you understand about being a professional athlete? I suppose that’s on your resume now too hey?
