Punishment for what?

Published by SJ at 7:43 pm under General

Brett Seymour – Football player for the Cronulla Sharks

Was kicked out of a club and filmed while drunk and walking around the streets of Cronulla. During the movie Seymour falls over and carries on like a bit of a niff. He also fell over on to a girl as she was trying to help him.

Punishment – Suspension and $20,000 fine

Andrew O’Keefe – Television host on channel 7

Was kicked out of a club and filmed while drunk and walking around the streets of Prahran. During the movie O’Keefe falls over and carries on like a bit a niff. He also fell over on to a girl as she was trying to help him.

Punishment – Nothing

Well, well what a surprise absolute proof that it’s a matter of what’s good for the goose ain’t always so crash hot for the gander. This is the sort of hypocritical dribble that pisses me off.

How in the world is what Brett Seymour did any worse than what little Johnnies nephew did?

Both are in the public eye.

Both could be perceived to be “role models”

Both dribbled on like a pair of 2 year olds.

I can’t see how anyone thinks that Brett Seymour should be punished at all. He was kicked out of the pub for being in thongs, which is perfectly reasonable.

Anyone who thinks Seymour should be punished should have a think about the times they have been out having a good time with mates and run amuck. Then consider when they showed up at work on Monday their boss was shaking his finger at them and taking money out of their pocket. They would squeal louder Russell Crowe giving it to David Gallop.

Hypocrites, ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!

    Agreed.

I would hate to have been recorded out on the town when I was younger.

I don’t think you can punish someone for what they do in there own time. As long as it is legal of course.

SJ, you have presented a thought worth discussing….for once.
“When you were younger” Julie? Are you over 25?

  3. Woody (I live in a swamp I put up signs)on 20 Mar 2009 at 3:42 am

The only reason he asks julie is because when you are 15 dating someone older than 25 is just too old for him

  4. iamasmartmanon 20 Mar 2009 at 6:50 am

Well well well Woodless the heartbreak kid is back! I hope you’re enjoying the microwave meals for dinner every night. I hope it doesn’t hurt to know that the”missus” is cooking (among other things) for someone else now. You should have listened to me & treated her a little better you LOSER!
Julie, my beautiful flower, please ignore him. I am older than 15, but not as old as some of the old-timers on this site. Did you know that people born in the 70s even knew about the web?

I guess it all comes down to how much value you offer to your employer, rather than how much damage you do to the brand.

Did the Broncos sack Lockyer for his behaviour at Caxton St?
How many times can Kate Moss be caught with c0cain all over her face and still get contracts?
If Tiger Woods & Roger Federer were caught on film wasted on a boat full of n@ked women…..would Nike drop their sponsorship?

How enthralling. Thanks for the taxi-drivers perspective Velcrap. We all put so much credence in the marketing insights of a high-school drop-out! Please educate us on nuclear physics as well. Please please?? IDIOT!!!

Julie, what are you up to? Are you on-line today?

  8. SJon 20 Mar 2009 at 11:03 am

    People,

I would never do this to anyone of you, but hear me out….

Next time I see ANY of you out and about, acting a bit of a drunken niff (don’t deny it) I am going to film you. Everything you do! I will be there like a prowler watching and recording.

Then on the following Monday I am going to visit your boss or “employer”, and your biggest customer or client and show them the evidence of your drunken behaviour.

    Sound fair?

Oh no hang on ….. you were in your private time, you had clocked off so you should be free of work restraints.

Why can a person in the “public eye” not be allowed to clock off yet you have the right to clock off and be free from persecution?

    ——-

You a letting a very dangerous precedent be set here people. One day if might not be just football players who can’t have some fun….

Shirvy, it’s only people in the public eye that the public are really interested in seeing in a drunken state. Therefore there is a high probability that someone will film it & in turn it will end up on the telly or interweb. For the rest of us Nevilles we only really have to be careful what we do in situations that are likely to end up messy, like work functions. We can do what we want (within reason) within our private social lives when we’re not representing our employers. I would however gladly swap positions with any of those rich talented professional sports people. I think keeping your nose clean in public is a small price to pay for all the trimmings that go with the position.
Iamadumbass, let me clear something up for you. Velcrap actually has a marketing degree from university. I can however understand your conclusion that he is an uneducated niff. You my pathetic little asian friend are embarrassing yourself by the way. I admit to enjoying some of your attacks (particularly those directed at SJ & Fat Simon) but most of the time you are just a disgraceful little big-noter.

It could be somehting to do with how mcuh they are paid SJ and the fact they are role models etc. That is why it is different.

A CEO is in the same boat. As is a manager who has a sales team reporting to them.

If you have no one looking up to you respecting you then you are free to get smashed.

Personally if I was caught smashed and my kids saw it I would be ashamed, same thing.

C’mon, don’t make excuses for footballers. They have an IQ of 50, get paid $300k base a year and are paid to play sport which quite frankly you and I could do if we had the inclination, a little talent and the discipline to train.

They are on a good wicket and only have to keep themselves out of trouble for 10 years of their lives.

We live in a society and society has values. Being a smashed knob is not one of the values, even though we have all done it, in reflection it was not some of our best work.

Nup defenitly think Seymor should be punished. He is in the spotlight he knows it and ignores it. Now its cost him.

  12. iamasmartmanon 20 Mar 2009 at 3:51 pm

SJ, your view of the world is through typical bevan service station purchased mirrored glasses. If there were only individuals in society like you, what a terrible state we’d be in. As for threatening your “friends” with videoing them. What a low act. Sadly no matter what they are caught on film doing they probably still wouldn’t lose their jobs. The boys in the workshop would think it was great. Your lives are different then those of us with a profile & responsibility & 90% of us understand that.
Megabevan, what a surprise that your remarks included outright lies & surprise surprise…racist overtnes!
Tigger, the most shocking & disturbing part of this whole saga is that you have children!!

Seymour has been jumped on rather than O’Keefe because he’s an easier target SJ. He re-enforces the media’s picture of the big, ugly football bogan & helps them sell papers. It’s that simple. If they were purely interested in supplying information to the public (as they claim), then both stories would’ve received a few lines & barely a headline.

Whilst the media have a lot to answer for, footballers do need to accept the fact that they are different to to normal blokes. They get paid a fortune to entertain people by doing something they love. The price they pay is that people want to know about them & their lives. Whilst paparazzi (& media in general) are the scum of the earth, all celebrities have to accept that the huge inequity between what they do & what they get paid versus the average person means they lose a % of their privacy. That’s the tradeoff.

Unfortunately the media are trying to take 100% of their privacy in order to sell papers & that’s an unfair %. The fact that Brett Seymour can’t go out, have a few beers & trip over in the street without hitting the front pages is a sad indictment on us all in the end. We buy the papers & magazines & watch the shitty current affairs programs & therefore perpetuate the problem.

I just wish people wouldn’t film it. What does it say about them.

I also struggle with the fact that media outlets pay for and publish this. I think this is the true sign of societies decay rather than a footballer having a few to many tubes.

Footballers have been drinking for well over 100 years and it is suddenly a problem?

Look at the facts, the only thing that has changed is the people willing to spy on, film and publish videos of other people.

It should be illegal to film other people and use their image without their express permission. Problem solved!

I solve problems. Iamanarsehole just dribbles.

Are we all forgetting that Brett Seymour (Along with Neville Costigan) were kicked out of the Brocos for this behaviour. Clearly this leopard can not change his spots

  16. iamasmartmanon 21 Mar 2009 at 1:26 pm

Trent, come across to Point Piper & bring your dancing shoes.

  17. Tunksyon 21 Mar 2009 at 9:19 pm

  19. Tunksyon 22 Mar 2009 at 8:28 pm
