R18+ Is a no no

Published by SJ at 5:20 am under General

You as a free adult in Australia are not allowed to purchase or play certain games that in other countries you can all because the attorney general of South Australia thinks that they are violent, sexually inappropriate or well that’s it. He doesn’t think that you as an adult are capable of determining the difference between video game and real life. Either that or he thinks that you as an adult will allow your children to play these games and develop anti-social tendencies.

Here’s a thought SA attorney general, you will develop broken jaw tendencies if you do not allow these games into the country very soon.

I suspect this is just another case of more stupid laws being perpetuated by stupid people thinking that they are protecting the ‘stupid’ public. The law of stupidicisies.

Grant Theft Auto IV is out soon and already banned from sale here. That is not such good darts. I wanted to steal cars, punch cops, break in to houses and shoot strangers. The only way I will be able to do any of these things now is in real life.

  1. So you think by allowing these types of games it is providing some sort of community service, that will help reduce random acts of violence and theft? I guess it follows the myth that legalised prostitution has helped stop rape crimes.

Don’t get me wrong I agree whole heartedly with the no censorship thing the game should be rated then be available to consenting adults (with warning labels) if they wish to buy it. Prostitution also has it’s place as long as the girls/guys can carry it out in a safe environment.

What I don’t like is the fact that this type of game can find anybody in society that will actually buy it in the first place. How does it possibly enhance/enrich your life SJ? I admit that I don’t mind the odd bit of out there porn but not if the objective of the porn is to maim, kill or steal.

I don’t think for one minute that this game will reduce crime and I, like others, will vote with my wallet anyway.

The last part of the comment was a tongue and cheek crack at the law. My point is the game is just a past time or escape from reality. Much the same as serial killer biographies, true crime books and romance novels are an escape. The difference here is that the game-book is a little more “choose your own adventure”.

  2. I understand that it is just escapism but how does playing a pretend game where you steal, punch on with the filth and win by seeing who can break the law the best, make your day better?
Don’t get me started on people who commit crimes and then sell their stories for profit it’s just plain wrong.
Why is it that the preschool I sent the kids to can’t celebrate the Christian version of the meaning of easter or Christmas but can have pirate dress up days where the kids come dressed as pirates and celebrate being a pirate? Didn’t pirates kill, steal and rape? What sort of message does that send to kids? Why does this country celebrate it’s criminals more than our Prime ministers? Even I could name more bush rangers and pirates than Prime ministers.

While I don’t support censor ship some games/videos/dvd’s should never have been made in the first place

Gaming is a hobby, something people do for recreation. Some people read or go to the movies, others jog, some people even make their own websites and post a whole heap of cr@p on it. And of course there are the niffs who make empty threats & beat people on the net.

I don’t see how gaming as a hobby threatens anybody, or turns people into mass murders. Like Woody said, the sale of some games needs to be controlled, just as they do smokes, grog, R18+ movies etc.

We don’t need big brother wrapping us in cotton wool & watching our every move. Some of us grew up watching Nightmare on Elm St and still turned out OK

You are so anti government SJ. You think that everyone is out to get you. There not they are out to protect society and yes sometimes you have to protect society from themselves. If the game sends a message that it is ok to steal cars and bash police then I agree with the government, it should be banned.
