Return of the shot

TIPPING COMP PAGE UPDATED TODAY (ABOVE)

I opened my quarterly Carina Leagues Club ‘Connect’ magazine yesterday and as I flicked through stories of new employees and sportsbar innovations I happened upon the Junior Development Managers latest news. His name is Michael De Vere and his photo looked surprisingly like that of former a Bronco winger.

As I read the article I was concerned at the news that this Mick De Vere was going to play one more season. I thought ahhh no problem, he will play for the Carina Tigers in second division or something. But then I read on further and….. NO NO he is planning to play for the Broncos.

Not to fear, I thought, he won’t ever be considered as he was borderline good enough back in the day. Then on the channel 9 sports report tonight and Wally ‘the King’ Lewis is talking to who other than Mick De Vere about a possible return this week for the Broncs.

And that is it, I must succumb to the realisation that the man who has NEVER EVER broken a tackle in his whole NRL career has decided to lace up the boots one more time for the Broncos.

I challenge anyone to show me a time when he breaks a tackle. Actually no, don’t bother, here is another game I prefer to use while watch De Vere.

The sniper game

As soon as De Vere gets the ball in attack pretend you are looking at him through a sniper scope. As soon as De Vere contacts an opposing defender pretend you are firing the sniper rifle at him. I promise, you will not miss him once all night!

I always thought he was a pretty solid player. I recall he played Origin so he can’t have been all that bad.

If he is as bad as you think then hopefully he will hinder the Broncos this season.

Ha ha ha the snipe game sounds so true. One of my mates used to say that every time he is tackled its like he get shot and drops straght to the gound. Right on

So you’ve got De Vere who can’t break a tackle, lined up alongside Lockyer who can’t make a tackle. Lucky you’ve got Folau to cover them both.

My memories of Devere are of a very fast back with great hands & solid defence.

Some of your best work SJ. Even the Eels & Roosters players can tackle Devere.

You are spot on SJ. The Bronco’s must have got him for a song, hence his employ at Carina. He is THE WORST defender I have ever seen in the NRL and I agree with your observation of him on the kick return. Between him and Thaiday, they are the quickest guys to hit the deck when they make contact with the defence. The only saving grace for DeVere is that he can kick for goal. And he’s dead cheap of course.

Worst defender???? Hello!!! Ever heard the name Lockyer?? Unless of course it’s a restaurant manager and he’s blind drunk. Then he can tackle. And lie about it. And get away with it.

I thought Megamanmoorey was the biggest turnstile we had all seen
