Summer of Tennis

Published by SJ at 10:02 am under General

I am perplexed at the sudden support for Jelena Dokic (I am to lazy to add the extra symbol over the C in Dokic). As I recall Jelena denounced this country to play for other countries not so long ago. Now with one half decent performance Aussie Open she is the queen of the court again? I will never and I mean EVER understand the idiosyncrasies of what is popular and what isn’t.

In terms of popularity all I can tell you is horizontal striped polo shirts were ‘in’ once before, they have been ‘in’ since and the will be ‘in’ again. And I will be there to ride that horizontal striped train all the way.

Anyway back to the Tennis. I see Roger Federer is still powering along and I think is currently offering the juiciest odds you will ever get out of him again. I was lucky enough to secure $3.30 a little while ago with a sensational all up bet and am riding that gravy train all the way to profittsville, population me. I hope he can destroy Roddick tonight as he has done in the past. For those interested Fox Sports 1 is showing a UFC94 countdown show tonight at 6:30pm EST.

Kick away Apache.

Nadal has had the upper hand on Federer of late and I don’t see this changing. I am with you about Dokic, it wasn’t long ago I remember her getting booed.

I have to say that I was also surprised at how quickly we forgave Jelena SJ. Forgive me for being cynical, but it even seemed to gain more momentum as other Aussie players fell by the wayside. My (ample) gut tells me that our insatiable need for sporting success in this country causes us to overlook almost any fault if you’re good enough at something.

We even do it in other areas – we claimed Crowded House as our own when they were churning out hits and have even stooped to calling bloody Russell Crowe an Aussie just because he stumbled into a couple of half-decent movies.

Hopefully in Jelena’s case, it’s merely because we understand that when such a young person is so heavily controlled by a bad influence that they will inevitably say and do some silly things. She’s apologised and seems genuine enough so I guess we owe her one more chance….

I think the boos you are referring to Trent came from some very racist people in the crowds. I am glad these people no longer attend or have learnt from their mistakes. It made me sick at the time.

Tonights game looks to be a cracker, I wouldn’t be counting Andy out to quickly there mate.

Ok Rob B you’ve got me, so I’m going to break my own rule and respond to you. Please, please, please explain to me how your first sentence makes any sense at all?

Rob, Rob, Rob…..why didn’t you learn from IASM’s lesson…..never ever try to pull the racist card on the Pieman………………..don’t even reply…..do what IASM did and walk away before you get humiliated like he did……..

When those disgusting people booed Dokic a few years ago it was because they didn’t like the fact she was playing for another country. Which constitutes racism.

Its not on in my book.

No, they booed her because she spat the dummy time and time again, suggested that the draw at the Australian Open was rigged to make sure she couldn’t win, and then when she didn’t get her own way she went back to her country of birth and started playing for them. Admittedly, booing her was over the top but she had to expect some sort of penalty for her behaviour.

I’m not even going to start on your complete lack of understanding of the term because it’s ground that’s been covered too many times to count and you’re clearly too thick.
