The Cox Plate 2008
We are here at the best race on the Australian racing calendar (in my opinion) and I am interested in your thoughts on the big race tomorrow.
I will start of with a woulda shoulda coulda moment with a suggestion the Ross McDonald should have had Weekend Hussler ready for his grand final tomorrow. I am surprised he didn’t change tact and head for the plate instead of the Caulfield Cup. I think he would have been hard to beat tomorrow
Back to reality….
I have a sneaky suspicion that this years Cox Plate will go to a horse called Maldivian. He fought on pretty well last week over the 2400 and I think he is due for a win after an inauspicious spring so far.
I am not sure about Samantha Miss, she has history against her and while she has dominated all and sundry to this point I think this step may be too big.
Master O’Reilly had a good run last start and was coming home pretty well.
Princess Coup has been having a great crack at it across the ditch but air travel seems to affect a lot of horses, if ‘the Cooo’ can get over the travel it’s a big chance.
In the Aami Vass I recommend that the MVRC just give first place trophy and prize money to the owners of Whobegotyou. Save the other runners the cost of floating their horses to the track.
Niconero is due in the Jayco Crystal Mile. Juicy odds will be the go.
What have you got? Give me your specials.

I love this race but I am dissapointed with the field. Each year the Cox Plate winner makes it onto the walls of ‘Blokesland’ and the list of horses (excluding Dane Ripper) has been top notch since ‘Occy’ in 95. I don’t think the top 2 are the only chances, but of those I prefer PC – thus meaning SM will win by 5 lengths! I think this brings Zipping, Master, Alamosa into contention. Perhaps Master will find the lead and run a cheeky race at MV – each way for me. My knock out horse is Zipping – track and distance no problem (the favourites have never coompeted at MV which is a big concern). Zipping meets Master better at the weights. The field isn’t strong, and I think that gives Zipping a great chance. As much as I hate to agree with Notasmartman, Maldavian loves this track and distance, and with a leaders bias and shit competition he’ll go close. Doctor’s tips in order Zipping, Princess Coup, Master ‘O’.
Good luck
Great race, poor field this year. The standout as I see it is Princess Coup. Samantha Miss MAY be one out of the box. Everything is against her historically. Can a 3YO filly win? I would love to see it but doubt it very much.
I hope Doctor picks Zipping and it comes nowhere. Who is your selection going to be tomorrow??
hope you all backed P.C. weeks ago when she was a juicy 10 to 1 don’t say I didn’t warn you
All the hype is for that Smantha Miss horse. I don’t know much about it all but I am with this one.
I believe SM will win.My main reason for thinking this is the weight she will carry & Surely Glen Boss wouldn’t waste his time eating water for two weeks if he didn’t believe she “will be winning”.SM was also clocked breaking 24secs for final 600m in track work and they say horses don’t do that at the valley- she’ll do me!!!.
WOW
I actually went down to the local tab and had a bet on your recommendation of Maldivia. BEST RECOM I have ever got.
Thank you very much
Punting LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEERRRRRRRRSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
