The Election Wrap

Published by SJ at 10:23 am under General

The Education Revolution is here! Now all we have to do is figure out what the hell it is. The first promise is a computer for every student. What does this do for them? Sure they will learn how to search for porn at exponential rates but I am not quite sure what it does from a pure ‘education’ perspective. A pencil and paper should still form the main tools of trade for the learning period of a child’s life, shouldn’t they?

The fact that K.Rudd sent his MP’s into class rooms this week to report on what is required to ‘improve things’ indicates to me that the education revolution was nothing more than a catch phrase with no real substance backing it.

Here is a thought K.Rudd, send your MP’s into the hospitals and suburban medical centres and get a report back on what is require to ‘improve things’ here…..

The removal of Work Choices. I am not sure what this will do to me personally? I have never been represented by a union and always had to negotiate working conditions individually. All I know is DHL workers are already threatening to strike if their demands aren’t met soon. A prediction of airline strikes over the Xmas period has also been mentioned to me and would not surprise.

I am also annoyed the Goodna bypass, west of Brisbane will be scrapped. All these rich people who live out on acre ridge in Brisbane’s western ‘leafy’ suburbs have successfully forced the rest of us to endure 7 years of road construction on the Ipswich Motorway (car park) which will also force extra traffic onto other Brisbane thoroughfares. For goodness sakes you bunch of pony riding rich sooksy la la’s, let us build a big arse road around you so we can lighten the load on our already over populated two lane dirt tracks. I can’t believe the number of people who live in Brisbane and the piddley little road system we are forced to endure.

John Howard’s concession speech will remain with me for a long time. Except for the stupid moron cheering annoyingly loud. It was very respectful of the position he has held and accepting of the people’s decision, no matter how stupid it was. I just wished he had thrown in a bit of ‘you can take the boy out of Bennelong but you cant take Bennelong out of the boy’ rhetoric that Keating so ungraciously dribbled after his defeat in 1996.

One thing is for sure, the country won’t fall apart like many Chicken Little’s seem to fear and I suspect our lives will be relatively unaffected.

Dirty Bevans now rule this country, shirvy. It’s a joke. Look at the areas that had the biggest swings…………

Maybe we need a ‘not a smart man test’ to be given to people prior to being given the ‘right’ to vote…….

All unions do is protect the lazy workers and reduce incentive based pay for those who want to work hard and make a go of it in this fine country!!!

I even had a taxi driver agree with me….so I must be right.

Ahhhh the confirmation of your beliefs from a taxi driver…… unless he is mistakenly driving the taxi insted of his limmo you may be wrong.

I think you are wrong about the new PM haveing no substance in his education plan. I believe that spending more money on public schools and less on private is the way to go. I aggree about Brisbanes bad roads though. I live in Sydney and whenever I go to Brisbane I always find the roads there a little backwards.

Tiger, Bevans (as you put it) should rule this country as they are the largest demographic and that is how democracy works. Labour would always win elections if it weren’t for the rule that allows political parties to form coalitions.

I appreciate your difference of opinion Rob B on the school comments but K.Rudd’s pollicy seemed to lack any detail whatsoever in my opinon.

Maybe shirvy needs a ‘not a smart man’ test before you can post replies……………..or bevan test……….????????????????

I think I’m out numbered by the bevans on this site?

Although shirvy it seems that the bevan market might be a good demographic for you to target………….

I’m intrigued to know where acre ridge is??

Love the election commentary Shirvy, couldn’t agree moore. But if we’re talking roads….let’s not forget the need for a Bruce Hwy to the Hervey Bay upgrade (one of the most dangerous roads going once yóu’re past Noosa), Gateway (it’s just a F*cking shambles) and for Christ F*cking sake….why oh F*cking why don’t we have a Ring Road???!!

Can we also have your take on the Beckham phenomenon that seems to have swept this country? He appears to be ‘not a smart man’ but yet he challenges you in your net worth.

    ———-

Thank you for including me in Beckham type net worth calculations.

Please further your ring road theories…. where should it start / finish etc

You guys just want to sit on the outside looking in and bitching… I’m not happy about this or that. If your not happy with the way certain organisations are run, then try joining them and get involved. You can’t change things from the outside. I bet neither of you did anything other than vote for the party you thought should win on the day. I won’t say I did a lot but enough was done by the collective to get the person elected that we wanted for our area

You just want to sit back and reap the rewards that other people put into place when they come off.

I don’t care if you join a union or not, the Doctors (AMA), Farmers (NFF) and Business groups have the strongest unions in the country they just don’t call them that as it scares all the liberal voters, so don’t believe for a minute this country was not led by unionists for the last 12 odd years. I’ve worked for plenty of lazy bosses who only wanted to get rich off the sweat I put out trying to earn a dollar, so it’s not just unionists that are lazy.

You are right about work choices probably won’t make much difference to any of us but it will stop someone sacking me because he doesn’t like the size pants I wear or the colour of my skin.

People are like rope laying on the ground you can’t push it, it bunches up in front of you. But you can lead it along and guide it through tight spots. However if you don’t check it every now and then it frays and will eventually break, if you maintain and repair it before it breaks then it should last for ever. This is the lesson that all governments need to learn. The little people of this country are bigger than the government.

You Know What F@#k All That “WINNERS ARE GRINNERS”

Thank you Woody. Fair comments. I have thought about running for public office quite seriously….. I have decided against it though as it would restrict my share market investment practices (I am also to lazy). I have also spent enough time in council/state government meetings to know that these meetings are where you take minutes and waste hours, however, these meetings and the people that sit through them, bless their souls, are necessary. You are quite right though I have not contributed anything other than commentary and I accept your comments.

We’ve got half a ring road…. ie a major road on the east (Gateway) and west (Centennary Hway) but no traffic light free roads on the north or south to link it all together.

How do you drive from the east side…say bevansville (Wynnum) to the westside (Indooroopilly) without being held up at a thooooooousand sets of traffic lights….you can’t. Why wasn’t that a part of Kevin 07s election plan? Rather than broadband for people who are still waiting for electricity?

  7. Woody (I live in a swamp, I put up signs)on 28 Nov 2007 at 1:22 pm

Obviously been a long time since you spent any time in Wynnum champ.
the place is full of European cars just like that stink hole called Indooroopilly
& electricity is now available 24/7

  8. Velcroon 28 Nov 2007 at 1:29 pm

Wynnum comment wasn’t directed to you don’t take it personally. and i stand by my comment…..there are bevans who live in wynnum. Isn’t that right Rat

I agree completely with your reply, the problem is that when motivated people enter the system they become overwhelmed and fall into the the same process as everybody else and as you say are a necessary evil. You only have to look at the processes that OH&S has put into our daily lives. I now get paid about 5-8 hours a week of O.T. to come in early just to writing permits so my crew can start work on time. Big organisations and governments are all the same.

The people who run for these positions are not necessarily the right people for the job. we need to pay politicians more money to interest better more qualifed candidates, I’m not suggesting fo 1 minute we pay existing pollies any more

I’m all for safety but where is the balance, I’m all for governments spending money but responsibly, health, education, defence/border security and helping those with genuine need are all the jobs of good government. Roads/ports/airports and infrastructure should be built by state governments as they have the local knowledge, but to do this the federal government have to hand back more money and thats not likely

Hey Woody are you related to Rob B?

  12. Tunksyon 28 Nov 2007 at 5:31 pm

I notice Reeeegitz didn’t sy much about the bevan factor

  13. Reeeegitzon 28 Nov 2007 at 7:37 pm

    That hurts, you squinting peanut!

  14. oh I’m so hurt…(sob sob) Reeeegitz please don’t say nasty things about me. Boo Hoo
    You moron!

  15. Hank Eon 29 Nov 2007 at 9:34 am

Don’t become like a Politician Woody….name calling hey! You sure yr not a Liberal supporter? U seem to have a negitive comment on everything.

You want to pay politicians more money so to get better qualifed candidates….yr kidding champ, all u will get then is more people intertested in that role & really only doing it for the money….money dosen’t make someone more qualifed….someone with experience is usely more qualifed.

I do like the effort you put in to yr comments but. keep up the work.

    Hank E

PS Wynnum has….is….and always will be full of bevans!!

  16. Hank I am sorry if you find my comments negative there not ment to be. The first posting I made on this subject was meant to be constructive not negative. They are just my thoughts and they may very well differ from yours but I put them out there for constructive comments/opinions
Please note at times my comments will be made tongue in cheek.

To get the experienced people we need into government we need to pay them equal to what they would get paid in the private sector which can be a lot more than pollies currently earn, but the government still needs to be balanced and we need people from all walks of life so i don’t know how you achieve this. It is my opinion that a large number of pollies in this country are just in for themselves, and I am talking all sides of the house not just 1 party

    For the record:
I am not currently in a union but I have been…. and I have not mentioned at any stage who I voted for nor have I asked you to vote for any particular person/party, but I am one of those niffs who voted for the person I thought would do the best job and because I thought the last bloke was no good
