Why I think house prices are so high?
Surprise, surprise I am going be negative about something
I blame women’s liberation for the current housing pricing situation, plain and simple. BUT before all you ladies out there who read notasmartman.com (yes I know you love it) get upset I use the above comment for shock value only. You shouldn’t be on the internet anyway, you should be in the kitchen making me a pie!!
Back to my theory….We have gone from a time when in the 1960’s women were fighting for equality and their rights. Fair enough. At that time the majority of families were single income only.
We then progress forward to the 80’s where 40% of mothers worked full time and the number of dual income families started to increase significantly.
Then into the late nineties and early 2000’s where, in the majority of families both husband and wife worked (or both single parents work) and dual incomes are at an all time high.
Harping back to a previous post ‘Today’s financial conundrum’, housing prices have increase by 10% per year for the last 100 years and salaries have only increased at an average of 3 to 4%.
So how did we sustain this housing price increase?
I personally feel it is due to the increased existence of the extra wage earner.
But I would be interested on your thoughts on this. Are you a sexist pig like me? Or do you believe there is an alternative explanation to this?

How can she make you a pie when she is ironing your shirt (********* off?)

Sorry champ, had to edit that one back a bit. I like the idea though.

I actually agree with you 100% here SJ. It is the only reason I believe this price increase has occured as well. Not sure I agree with your comments about women however I suspect you are joking.

Well deducted there Rob B.

Sook!
I think you’re onto something there Shirvy…..though consider the point that our divorce rate is increasing. Somebody correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m sure i heard somewhere it was now 50/50. You almost feel like you’re on Big Brother, just waiting for somebody to say….”It’s time to go….”
Not all divorcees live the remainder of their life as shriveled up old bags, as some remarry and go back to dual income status. But the increases in single parent families and divorces must counteract your argument slightly Shirvy?
———
Yes I agree Velcro, but as you say, a lot of these people re-shackup and their dual income status is restored.

SJ, Am I to assume you are single?

I dont think u can do anything about both of them….housing prices will alway rise & women will always winge. They can’t help themselves.
On a more positive note….The more single mothers….the better the average.
I had a single mother once & I dribbled all over her, she wiped it off with a………………………
